General Guidelines

  1. The nominees are judged primarily on their innovativeness in the use of infocomm technology or the innovative development of an infocomm product/solution.

    MOST PROMISING INNOVATION Recognises the innovation behind products or solutions developed by Singapore-registered companies. The product or solution must create outstanding impact on the way businesses operate or greatly enhance the quality of lives for end users. The companies should have fulfilled a marketplace need by developing a commercially viable business model around this innovative product or solution, which has the potential to be sustainable in the long run. They should also have carved out new markets, with high growth potential, for themselves through this innovative product or solution.

    BEST ADOPTION

    Recognises Singapore-registered companies, public sector organisations, non-governmental organisations and social sector organisations that have adopted products or solutions leveraging emerging technologies. Solutions could have been co-developed jointly with technology companies to digitally transform their businesses, resulting in greater competitive advantage, operational efficiency, enhanced productivity and improved citizens or customer experiences.

    Note: This award is given to an User Organisation, with possible mention of the technology company and solution(s) used. Submissions are open to User Organisations. Tech companies who wish to participate should jointly submit application with a user organisation.

    STUDENT TECHBLAZER

    Recognises innovative ideas with commercialisation potential developed by students and student teams from Singapore public educational institutions. Solutions must leverage emerging technologies to fulfil a marketplace need or have potential to carve out new markets. The submission should demonstrate the spirit of entrepreneurship through technology innovation, and include potential business plans. This award category aims to discover and encourage the next generation of innovators.

    Note: Teams must comprise of full-time students at the same OR different Singapore public educational institution. At least one member must be 15 years old and above. Teams should minimally have a working prototype developed, which would need to be presented at Prelim and Final Judging rounds.

  3. These transformational product, solutions and services help to drive a Smart Nation and contribute to the Singapore Economy.
  4. A Nominator may nominate his/her own or another organisation/team for the award. The Nominee must be a Singapore-registered organisation or Teams from Singapore public educational institutions.

Entries Eligibility

  1. General Eligibility
    1. The organisation and/or individual must own the product/technology exploitation rights to the Intellectual Property (IP).
    2. Majority of the product development efforts (including, research and development and design) must be carried out and completed within Singapore
    3. For Most Promising Innovation and Best Adoption, all local and Singapore-based organisations/companies must be registered as a legal entity under the Singapore Company Act.
    4. For Student Techblazer, teams registered should comprise full-time students at Singapore public educational institutions with a working prototype developed.
  2. Non-Eligibility
    1. An entry which has won an award in SG:D Techblazer Awards 2018 and 2019 is not eligible for participation in the SG:D Techblazer 2020 Award, unless there are substantial enhancements made on the original winning entry for it to be considered in their submission for the award in 2020.
  3. Award Entries
    1. Submissions must meet all criteria stipulated in this guideline or it will be disqualified.

Submission and Judging Process

  1. Call for Entries Submission
    1. Entries submission period: 15 June 2020 to 31 August 2020
    2. Submissions must meet all criteria stipulated in this guideline or it will be disqualified.
  2. Pre-Qualification
    1. All entries will be evaluated by an Expert Panel with members from public agencies, the industry and SGTech.
    2. All entries will be evaluated and shortlisted for Preliminary Judging based on the information submitted online in accordance with the judging criteria.
  3. Preliminary Judging
    1. All shortlisted entries will be required to present to a Preliminary Judging Panel, with members from public agencies, the industry, research communities and SGTech. Preliminary judging will be held on: 20 October 2020 to 22 October 2020 (Tuesday to Thursday)
    2. Participants will be notified via email on the presentation date and time. Judging dates are pre-arranged according to the availability of the judges in the respective categories. Requests to reschedule will not be accommodated.
    3. Each entry will be allocated 15mins (10mins for presentation and 5mins for Q&A) and an additional 3mins allocated for setup.
  4. Final Judging
    1. Finalists will be informed via email on their successful qualification to the final round of judging by the last week of October 2020 with their allocated presentation date and time. Judging dates are confirmed and requests to reschedule would not be entertained. 
    2. Finalists are required to present to the Final Judging Panel, with members from public agencies, the industry, research communities and SGTech.
    3. Final Judging will be held on 4 November 2020 (Wednesday) 
    4. Each entry will be allocated 25mins (10mins for presentation and 15mins for Q&A) and an additional 3mins allocated for setup.
    5. Finalists will be given the following:
      1. A certificate to recognize participation in the finals
      2. One (01) ticket to attend the award prize presentation event
      3. Use of SG:D Techblazer Awards Finalist logo on company name cards
      4. Shortlisted finalists may get the chance to be invited to participate in Demo Days, pitching and business matching sessions.
      5. Entitlements as part of the Winners Benefits and Package.
    6. The decision of the Judges is final.
  5. Prize Ceremony
    1. All finalists will be invited to attend the prize ceremony on To be confirmed
    2. Finalists will be informed of the details of the ceremony via email.
